2024 Interior Design Trends

As we step into 2024, there are a ton of interior design trends and predictions coming out. Some of them I agree with and some I don’t so, I wanted to compile my favorite trends that I think will blend timeless elegance with modern functionality.

WARMER AND DARKER WOODS

White and light oak has been very popular the last couple of years, but 2024 will bring on warmer and darker woods in richer tones. You’ll see them used more and more in kitchens and bathrooms and in furnishings.

BOLDER WALLPAPER

When it comes to wallpaper, think bigger patterns and more florals. While this isn’t a trend per se, it will be a continuation of the use of wallpaper throughout the home to add more personality to spaces.

ECLECTIC GRANDPA

This name makes me giggle, but it came out in Pinterest’s Predicts report. It’s a style that embraces retro streetwear and ‘grandpa’ cardigans. In the home, it will translate to more masculine prints and patterns like plaid and colors like navy blue and brown. You could also call it country club style. 2022-2023 was all about the coastal grandma, but 2024 will be all about the eclectic grandpa or as Gen-Z might say, grandpa-core.

ITALIAN INSPIRED

Think bold marble, stone with more prominent veining and black iron metals. And the continued use of plaster and limestone on walls and kitchen hoods.

FLEXIBLE/DUAL-PURPOSED SPACES

This may not be a trend, but it’s a continued theme of needing multi-functional spaces such as combined home offices and home gyms or combined guest rooms and office spaces. Many people have continued to work from home so, a home office is a must in most homes now but it needs to be combined with other uses to maximize the space.

BOLD TILE AND BOLDER TILE LAYOUTS

In 2024, bold floor tile will be a bigger trend (if you follow me on Instagram, you know I #ihavethisthingwithtiles on #tilethursdays). Think colorful tile with fun patterns. If bold tile is not your thing, you can use more neutral tile, but play with different tile layouts for a more unique look, like mixing horizontal and vertical layouts or playing with two different but similar colors in a striped pattern.

What do you think of these trends? There are plenty more trends and predictions that have come out and will continue to come out, but these are my favorites that I can get on board with.
